Philips Medical selected Manta to provide complete industrial design and mechanical engineering services to develop their new flagship cardiograph. The primary goals of the program were to optimize usability and provide the high level of quality expected of a Philips product.

Manta performed site visits and user interviews which identified problems with existing systems, preferred features and opportunities for user improvements. To help envision new possibilities Manta generated concept sketches, appearance models and full-scale functional models of a range of concept approaches for testing in the field.

Our engineering team took responsibility for all aspects of the mechanical development including engineering management, printer mechanism design, plastics design, cart design, prototype procurement, finite element analysis (FEA), manufacturing liaison and plastic parts procurement from Singapore. Manta also worked to mitigate development risk by providing Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), reliability and qualification testing, and process management.

Philips and Manta successfully leveraged our mutual experience, resulting in a highly successful product, fully integrated program responsibility and shortened development timelines.
